Gastro-esophageal reflux in childhood

Abstract
Sliding esophageal hiatal hernia is a common disorder in infants and children and gastroesophageal reflux is frequently associated with this type of anatomic disorders. The resultant reflux of gastric juice leads to symptoms and the pathologic changes in the esophagus.
In the last few years, there has been an increased interest in gastro-esophageal reflux in children and it became apparent that gastro-esophageal reflux, not hiatal hernia, was the primary cause of symptoms and the focus of therapeutic intervention shifted from repair of hiatal hernia to anti-reflux operation.
And now it is obvious that improved radiological techniques and increasing clinical awareness had a profound effect on diagnosis of this common disorder in infancy and childhood.
We experienced 2 cases of childhood gastro-esophageal reflux and managed with Nissen fundoplication in Keimyung University School of Medicine and report here with the review of literature.
